4-Day Masai Mara Flying Safari

Embark on a truly private and customizable safari with Kambu Campers, featuring the iconic Keekorok Lodge. Known for its rich history, lush mature trees, and unparalleled location near the Sekenani Gate, Keekorok Lodge provides a serene retreat while placing you at the heart of the Masai Mara’s abundant wildlife action. This exclusive tour is entirely private, meaning you will not be sharing your vehicle or guide with other hotel guests, giving you the ultimate flexibility to plan your game drives according to your preferences.

Your open-sided 4×4 Land Cruiser ensures an immersive and intimate safari experience, with unobstructed 360-degree views of the Mara’s wildlife. Whether you choose to set off immediately after lunch or wait for the cooler hours of the afternoon, your safari is fully tailored to your needs. On day three, you will enjoy a private visit to a traditional Maasai village and explore the beautiful Masai Mara Botanical Garden. For those looking to elevate their experience, an optional hot air balloon safari is available for an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of the Mara.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Keekorok Lodge

  • Morning: We’ll arrange for you to get transfer ride from your location to Wilson Airport for a one-hour scenic flight to the Masai Mara. They require that you arrive at least an hour to take-off.
  • You’ll be flying with Safarilink aboard their Cessna Grand Caravan model, which offers a direct, non-stop service from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Keekorok Airstrip. This flight, with a baggage limitation of 15kg per person, is among my favorite rides to take. We book the flight departing Wilson Airport at 10 am so you need to be at the Airport a few minutes before 9 am or by 9 am latest.
  • As you descend toward Keekorok, there’s often the thrilling chance to spot animals roaming the plains below — an unforgettable experience before you even touch down. Once you land, your personal driver, who doubles as your guide and Maasai confidant, will be there to greet you and guide you through the adventures of the next few days.
  • Upon arrival at Keekorok Airstrip, just a 3.8 km or 8-minute drive to the lodge, your personal driver-guide will greet you in your private open-sided Land Cruiser and take you to Keekorok Lodge.
  • Midday: Settle in and enjoy lunch at the lodge, known for its lush environment, shaded by mature acacia trees, and proximity to a private hippo pool where you can observe hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat.
  • Afternoon: If you’re feeling up to it, embark on your first private game drive right after lunch. If you prefer to rest, your driver will be ready to start the afternoon game drive at 4:00 pm. The flexibility of a private tour allows you to plan your drives according to your pace.
  • Evening: Return to the lodge by 6:00 pm for a delicious dinner and a relaxing evening. Enjoy a quiet stroll to the hippo pool before bed, or sit back and take in the night sounds of the Mara.
  • Accommodation: Keekorok Lodge
  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner (Buffett)
  • Activities: Afternoon game drive (optional timing flexibility)
  • Safari Vehicle Type; 4×4 Safari Jeep with Open sides.

Day 2: Full Day of Private Safari Adventures

  • Early Morning: Start your day with an early morning game drive at 6:30 am. Early mornings are prime time for predator sightings, and with the open-sided Land Cruiser, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of the wildlife as the savannah wakes up.
  • Midday: Return to Keekorok Lodge for a leisurely breakfast, followed by free time to relax and explore the lodge’s grounds, including the famous hippo pool and mature trees that provide plenty of shade — a rare treat in the Mara.
  • Afternoon: After lunch, take a break or start your private game drive whenever you’re ready. You have the flexibility to begin your drive either right after lunch or wait until 4:00 pm for a cooler, late-afternoon safari.
  • Evening: Return by 6:00 pm for dinner and enjoy the cool evening breeze as you relax under the umbrella acacia trees.
  • Accommodation: Keekorok Lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Buffett)
  • Activities: Morning and afternoon private game drives, flexibility to start earlier or later based on your preference

Day 3: Maasai Cultural Experience and Botanical Garden Visit

  • Early Morning: Kickstart the day with another early game drive at 6:30 am, followed by breakfast at the lodge.
  • Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari: For those who booked the optional hot air balloon safari (extra fees apply), your adventure will start before dawn. Drift over the Mara’s breathtaking landscapes and watch the sunrise over the plains. The balloon safari ends with a champagne breakfast in the bush, and you’ll be back by 10:00 am to continue your game drive.
  • Midday: After a relaxed breakfast (or the hot air balloon safari), take a break and enjoy some downtime at the lodge. At midday, embark on a cultural visit to a traditional Maasai village, where you’ll meet the Maasai people and learn about their fascinating culture and way of life. Thereafter, visit the Beads Museum within Sekenani Gate.
  • At around 1 pm, be back to Keekorok for lunch.
  • Afternoon: In the afternoon, head to the Masai Mara Botanical Garden, a lesser-known gem where you can explore the unique flora of the region – which also has all of Kenya’s fruits surprisingly thriving in the Masai Mara climate – though with a lot of tendering. After the garden visit, enjoy a final private game drive to catch more wildlife as the sun sets over the Mara.
  • Evening: Return to Keekorok Lodge for your final dinner, a perfect opportunity to reflect on the incredible experiences you’ve had so far.
