This 3-Days Masai Mara Flying Safari at Kambu Mara Camp(KMC) is the most efficient budget fly-in option for travellers who want to avoid the 5–6 hour road transfer from Nairobi without paying luxury-camp rates. By flying out of Wilson Airport and landing directly in the Mara ecosystem, you replace an entire day of driving with immediate game viewing, arriving fresh and ready for an afternoon safari on the same day.
Designed specifically for short visits, this package reflects how experienced safari planners structure fly-in trips: mid-morning arrival, lunch at camp, and afternoon game drive, followed by a full core safari day inside Masai Mara National Reserve. Staying at Kambu Mara Camp keeps costs grounded while still offering the key advantages that matter on a flying safari—fast access from nearby airstrips, proximity to Sekenani and Talek wildlife zones, and a quiet conservancy-edge setting that maximises time on game drives rather than transfers.
In practical terms, this is the best-value Masai Mara flying safari for travellers with limited time: fly instead of drive, stay comfortably rather than expensively, and focus the budget on wildlife hours, guiding quality, and location. It’s a no-frills, real-world fly-in safari built the way frequent Mara flyers do it—efficient, wildlife-first, and optimised for a high-impact 3-day Masai Mara experience.

7 Tips for Packing Light – Especially for Families with Kids;
Packing for a fly-in safari to Masai Mara with a 15 kg (33 pounds) baggage limit can be a challenge, especially for families with kids. Here are some expert tips to help you pack efficiently:
- Use Soft-Sided Bags: Most light aircrafts have limited baggage space, so it’s recommended to use soft-sided duffel bags or backpacks, which are more flexible and easier to stow.
- Layered Clothing: Safaris can bring temperature fluctuations, so opt for lightweight, layered clothing that can be easily adjusted as needed. Pack a few essentials such as light t-shirts, a sweater, and a waterproof jacket.
- Prioritize Kids’ Essentials: For families, focus on the must-haves for kids, including necessary medications, sun protection, and a few multi-purpose outfits. If space allows, include compact, travel-friendly entertainment like a tablet loaded with movies, books, or games.
- Pack Lightweight Footwear: Hiking boots are often not needed for most game drives. Instead, opt for lightweight shoes like sneakers or sandals, which take up less space and weight.
- Shared Toiletries and Essentials: Instead of individual toiletries for each family member, pack shared items like sunscreen, insect repellent, and a family-size body wash or shampoo in travel-sized containers.
- Pack for Safari: Don’t forget safari essentials such as binoculars and a good camera. If bringing photography gear, consider renting larger equipment at the destination to save space.
- Baby Gear: If traveling with younger kids, consider minimizing bulky baby gear by renting baby carriers, cots, or car seats from local suppliers in Kenya. Kambu Campers offers some of these as add-ons.
By keeping these tips in mind, families can enjoy their fly-in safari to Masai Mara without feeling weighed down by excess luggage.

When making payments for this 3-Days Masai Mara Flying Safari or other Kambu Campers services, a 5% surcharge fee is applied to credit card transactions processed via Visa or Mastercard. This surcharge covers the processing costs imposed by credit card companies and ensures a secure and seamless payment experience. These fees vary depending on the client’s banking institution, but they typically cover administrative costs, foreign exchange fees, and other transfer-related charges. It’s important for clients to account for these additional fees when planning their payments to avoid any shortfall in the total amount received.

Helpful Tips About Planning for your Masai Mara flying Safari:
- Airstrip access: Kambu Mara Camp is well served by Keekorok Airstrip, Siana Airstrip, and Ol Seki Airstrip, allowing flexible flight routing depending on aircraft schedules and sector focus.
- Flight timing: Most scheduled flights depart Wilson Airport around 8:00 AM, with typical arrival in the Masai Mara at ~10:00 AM, including brief stops at other airstrips en route.
- Recommended arrival plan: A midday arrival is ideal—transfer to camp, check in, and enjoy lunch at Kambu Mara Camp before afternoon activities.
- Afternoon options: Choose between a short afternoon game drive targeting lions, elephants, and plains game as temperatures cool, or a Maasai cultural village visit for social and ecological context.
- Efficient safari flow: This timing avoids rushing into early drives, allows guests to settle in, and aligns perfectly with prime late-afternoon wildlife movement and golden-hour viewing.
✈️ About Your Nairobi–Masai Mara Flights: Expert Helpful Tips to Know
- Strict luggage limits are real (and enforced): Most Masai Mara scheduled flights cap baggage at 15 kg (33 lbs) total, including hand luggage. This isn’t flexible like international flights—bags are weighed because of small aircraft performance limits.
- Soft bags aren’t just preferred—they’re practical: Use soft-sided duffel bags. Hard suitcases often won’t fit into narrow baggage holds, even if they meet the weight limit.
- Weight distribution matters: If you’re travelling as a couple or group, airlines may redistribute luggage across passengers to balance the aircraft. Pack so items can be easily shifted between bags.
- Photography gear adds up fast: Camera bodies, long lenses, and binoculars count toward your 15 kg. Seasoned flyers wear heavy items (camera straps, jackets with pockets) to reduce bag weight at check-in.
- Arrive early at Wilson Airport: Check-in typically closes 30–45 minutes before departure, and flights often leave earlier than scheduled once all passengers are onboard.
- Expect multiple landings: Most flights stop at 2–4 airstrips before yours (e.g., Keekorok, Siana, Ol Seki). This is normal and part of the Mara flying network—factor it into arrival timing.
- Morning flights are smoother: Early departures (around 7:00–9:00 AM) usually have calmer air. Afternoon turbulence is more common due to rising heat over the plains.
- Seats aren’t assigned: Boarding is usually first-come, first-seated, and pilots may move passengers for aircraft balance. Window seats are common—great for aerial views.
- Carry essentials on you: If baggage needs to be reloaded or delayed (rare, but possible), having medication, camera, valuables, and a light jacket on you avoids inconvenience.
- No liquids screening like international flights: Domestic bush flights have simpler security, but sharp objects and drones may still be restricted—check in advance if you’re carrying specialized gear.
- Plan for a midday safari start: With most flights arriving in the Mara around 10:00 AM, experienced travellers plan for lunch at camp first, then an afternoon game drive when wildlife becomes active again.
- Weather can reshuffle schedules: During the long rains (Mar–May), flights may be delayed or rerouted rather than cancelled. Flexibility is built into the system—operators coordinate transfers smoothly.
- Tip pilots & ground staff? Not expected: Unlike guides and camp teams, tipping flight crew isn’t customary on Mara bush flights.
These practical details help ensure your Masai Mara flying safari starts smoothly—light bags, early arrival, and flexible expectations make all the difference.
💳 Booking & Payment
- A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. For the default package, payment is made directly to Kambu Mara Camp. - Payment is made via a secure Pesapal payment link, using card or MPesa.
- The remaining 50% balance is payable on arrival at the camp using card or MPesa.
- Once your accommodation receives your deposit payment, your booking is confirmed and they’ll share the assigned transfer vehicle and driver contact details for easy coordination on the day of arrival.
